Weekly update 19th -23rd November

Dear Parents,

In Math, students have been sharing and discovering a variety of additional methods to use in algorithms. Amongst them were trade first and the partial sum method. Students enjoyed sharing and peer teaching each other on some of the methods parents have shown them at home. Students will continue to practice these addition algorithms next week, as not all learners have grasped this concept.

Homework of the coming weeks:

No-tech week  26-30 November, students are requested to not use any devices for the whole week. students will reflect on the no tech week next Friday. Students will keep and update a login book of their daily activities. Students will reflect on how they experienced the no tech week next Friday.  Encourage your child to create games to keep themselves entertained during the no tech week.  We would love students to bring in their games for us to try at school.

Math:

Discuss time e.g we'll be leaving in five minutes, we'll leave at 3:00, etc.
Talk with your child about how you use math every day and show them how you use math. We continue to look at various ways to represent data.

When cooking, ask your child to help and study measuring with you, e.g temperature, quantities, capacity, and weight.

Encourage your child to measure things at home e.g family heights, foot size. Encourage them to draw and measure lines using different lengths using rulers. This is a great hand-eye coordination practice.

Talk about real-life measurement- e.g speed when traveling to/ from school, adding up grocery items, weighing fruits and vegetables at the market, how you determine how much milk, flour, sugar, and other staples to buy for your family, etc.

Do activities on Mathletics

Language:

Students are bringing home leveled readers. They must read every day, and out loud to an adult at least twice a week.

Spelling City activities.

Students had an awesome time at the post office, ask your child to tell you all about it.
