Weekly update 25th- 29th March 2019

Dear Parents,

Thank you for attending the Student-Led Conferences, I hope you found it informative and well planned and organized by students.

Here are photos of some of the families that attended.

UOI and ICT:

This week students were introduced to Flipgrid, a tool to document and record there first thinking and prior knowledge of Habitats. Students will continue to record their thoughts and learning throughout the unit.

In Math:
Students sorted animal pictures in various categories then created Venn diagrams to display their data.

Literature and PSPE integration.

Students drew pictures of something or someone that the love. Students then modeled Communication and Social skills as they shared their drawing with each other in a confident manner. All the students took turns speaking and listening to each other. They were respectful and open-minded to their feelings and beliefs. Unfortunately, students had to take the beautiful picture that they have drawn and crumble it up. Students were then asked to straighten their paper again. Students quickly realized that all the crinkles could not be taking out. This lead us to our lesson on not hurting each other's feelings. The wrinkles left on the paper represents the scares that are left when our feelings have been hurt even after one has apologized the scares still remain.

Thank you Grade 1J for inviting us to look at and read your story boxes.

Weekly update of 11th-15th March 2019

Dear Parents,

This week in Literature we continued to look into pronouns, similies, tenses and plural nouns. Students identified them in text. Students were divided into two teams, they competed against each other to see who can fill in the missing spaces with the correct answer the fastest.

Students have been busy setting goals and preparing for the Student-Led conferences taking place on the 28th of March. The student -Led Conference gives students voice and ownership of their learning, as the students will facilitate the conferences to share their learning. There will be no school for students on Thursday, students are only expected to come in for there conferences at the scheduled time.

In UOI we continue to include students in building and planning of the unit, Sharing the Planet. Students have come up with a kiddies Central Idea (  which is our focus for the next few weeks of the unit. Students have started to formulate questions and wonderings that they would like to inquire into. Later this week students will look into the quality of these questions as we look into what are good questions are with guidance students might re-design their questions for inquiry.
